Interview with Deen - New Era Brand Ambassador

Meet Deen - Hailing from the streets of Cerritos, CA, Deen represents a new era in music. Los Angeles born and bred, rapper/actor "Deen" was given birth to by Pakistani parents with an Afghani background. Deen, meaning "way of life" in Arabic, is gearing up to be one of the first hip-hop artists of Southeast Asian origin to breakout into the mainstream. Close ties to his homeland and religious background, have paved the way for him to become a major international star and a global commodity. Focused on representing right and shining a positive light on an often misinterpreted people, Deen has begun to become the voice for a population of over 2 Billion plus people. Never one to be satisfied with the norm, his insistence to learn and persistence to make a difference has led him onto a path of change. A change that has taken him from a dark past and brought him forth into an enlightened future.

Deen is a massive New Era fan so met with him and asked a few questions:

1. What got you into musics? Who was your inspiration?

Growing up in Los Angeles, CA, during the era of Rap where West Coast music & culture were dominant had a major influence on me and my involvement with hip-hop. I was inspired by 2pac, Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg, The Dogg Pound, N.W.A., and so on, because at that time they were able to encapsulate a message through music in such an artistic & entertaining manner that people across the globe could feel the movement.

2. Explain to us your style?

The best way I could explain my style is a "camouflaged conscious hip-hop" or "stealth street conscious rap" because I can go from raw street music to even utilizing a more pop style to expand my audience and reach a wider array of people without compromising my message. To me, that versatility separates an emcee from just a person that raps.

3. How old where you when you brought your first New Era cap?

I believe, I must of been probably like 12 years old or younger. Starter caps used to be big back in the day but I remember when New Era caps really rose to popularity the quality, designs, and everything changed the whole game. New Era set the standard of what a real hat should be like for me.

4. Why style and team do you wear?

I wear fitteds and snapbacks mainly, but you may see me occasionally rocking something different if I feel the design is on point with my style. The teams I usually rock are the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, and any team logo that has a "C" or an "M" in it to represent for my city, "Cerritos" and the "Middle East".

5. Why New Era?

To look your best, you've got to wear the best, and when it comes to hats, that's what New Era signifies to me. They have the experience, longevity, and they're constantly doing the work to make sure that they stay ahead of the curve and provide the best possible hats on the market. For me, it's not about why New Era, it's more of why not? Don't cheat yourself, treat yourself. New Era is #1 for a reason.
